I got this Yonder at Blade Show West in October 2024. Zach was gracious enough to sign the blade for me (and Jamie, who also helped in the design, signed it recently). I’ve carried it as an EDC knife, backpacking, garage cleaning, bushcrafting, and any other adventure I found myself on. It wasn’t always my primary knife, but I usually had it for a backup at least.
I have XL hands and was initially incredulous about the the handle length and how it would perform/feel during hard or extended use. One afternoon I decided to practice making tinder and notch carving test my theory, and what I found was that the knife was perfectly capable of performing these tasks without leaving me frustrated or blistered as other, seemingly more capable, knives have. This gave me a great deal of confidence in taking the Yonder out “yondering” which I did quite a bit with this knife. There were times that I was worried the Yonder wouldn’t be up to a given task, but it always performed, and performed well.
One minor complaint of mine was the height of the thumb stud relative to the height of the scales, so I used my Dremel and a 1/2” sanding drum to give myself better access. After that, the knife was basically perfect and I haven’t made any additional changes.
I may retire this knife when the Over Yonder comes out because I don’t see a down side to more blade length and handle real estate, but this Yonder has become an old friend real quick.
I’d love to hear other people’s experience with their Yonder. How has it worked for you?
