Last week I received my first Emerson. I've been looking at them for years but never pulled the trigger on one. So for Christmas this year I finally bought one.
I really like it. I work at FedEx as a QA so I'm technically not supposed to carry a knife but my job gives me a reason. The knife does everything I need it too with no issue.
I chose the commander just because i find recurves sexy. With what I need, a straight blade would work better but I like carrying what makes me smile. I had serration put on due to them making cutting straps and zip ties easier.
Cutting: it cuts great, it came very sharp, and the chisel edge cuts no different then a traditional edge.
Comfort: I have never really found a knife to be "uncomfortable" or hard to hold so I can't say much for the ergonomics. The only "hotspots" is from the g10 being so aggressive but thats not really a complaint. I know I won't drop it due to it being so grippy.
Action: the action is nothing special. It's smooth but not glass smooth. The detent is light enough to wrist flick it open it but tight enough not to open in the pocket. It also doesn't jump while trying to thumb open it. So nothing special with the action.
Steel: 154cm is fine for what I need. I haven't put the knife through any hard use and I doubt I ever will so I'm happy with the steel. After a week of cutting tape, cardboard, the occasional ziptie and strap, the knife still shaves.
The wave: it's fun to use. That's all I got
The lock stick: it has lock stick. It doesn't bother me at all. I don't need to be able to quickly close the knife.
Final assessment: I really like the knife. It does what I need. Its a sexy knife that makes me smile everytime I get a chance to use it. I like this knife so much, I ordered the cqc7 to go with it. Sorry if my review sucks.
