If you are new to the game, I'd like to offer a little unique idea to figure out what you presonally like. What LED, what CCT, how tints work, how smooth vs orange peel reflectors look like etc. But also learn some modding… you can get bits and pieces to learn some soldering!
- Get a P60 host like the Kdlitker E6-21700 from Kaidomain, $15
- Get several P60 dropins. ($5-$15)
Kaidomain has a few for like $5 each (not great ones)

But these are better:

They are $8 – $16 a piece, and you don't need to mod anything. Just unscrew the head, and drop the module in. The following are quads, with better thermal regulations than the $5 units.

That way you can easily test different CCT (color temperatures that you referred to as NW vs CW), as well as different LED types, outputs, CRI, and even reflectors vs TIR optics.
I personally did a similar test with 20 different LEDs in a Convoy S2+ (but I had to do some soldering, etc). I wanted to see what I personally liked in terms of CCT etc.
You can read about it here: https://budgetlightforum.com/t/comparing-20-leds-with-and-without-high-cri-in-14-convoy-s2-final-personal-observations/69051
I can also share it in r/flashlight if anyone is interested.
I came to some conclusions/observations that you might not be aware of. For example, you can have the same high CRI NW LED as your friend, but have a different tint (duv). They can rave about a specific LED, and yours might be a different tint, and don't like that particular LED.
There are quite a few variations when it comes to LEDs in a flashlight.
Oh, probably the best tip for an EDC flashlight is DC FIX. 😉
It's just a piece of plastic you stick to the front lens, which makes the beam very smooth. This is in many cases the best upgrade on an EDC flashilght, and not just for cheap ones.

I just like P60 lights. They’re nostalgic. Not the brightest, not the best thermals, but they’re simple, and incredibly easy to mod.
This is great. Thank you very much for posting this.
You got a link to this dc fix stuff?
Also triple and quad drop ins are also only like $20. I personally recommend the triple xp-l hi in 4000k.
