I’ve had my full Ti 20.5 for roughly 3 years now. I’ve always liked it, but the scales have always bothered me. Not only are they slick, but it’s a very thin knife. I feel like the proportions are just a bit off.

Fast forward to Black Friday, Demko is having a big sale. I see cheap 20.5, I buy. I got the d2 shark foot. I thought I was going to give this as a present, but I changed my mind 😂

For shits and giggles I took the Ti and the G10 apart, and came up with this. A full Ti 20.5 with overlaid liners!! The liners had to be modified since I bought the small pivot g10. It was easy to dremel out the notch, making the pivot holes round. I then deburred and polished up the bearing races in the liners.

As cool as this is, it isn’t perfect. The location of the pivots comparing the two must be a couple thousands off center. When I put the knife together the first time the pivot sat cockeyed on both sides. Took it apart and took a little more material where the notch in the liner was. After putting it back together it still isn’t perfect, but better. I’m a little afraid to ruin the liners.

The most obvious is the standoff pins are now too short. The same goes for the pivot pin. The pin BARELY makes it through the blades pivot hole, just enough for the bearings to not slide around uncentered.

In the end, I had fun trying something new. Having only had it together a few hours I’m enjoying the newfound thickness. The slick scales aren’t nearly as much of an issue for me anymore, having more to grip makes up for it.

I’m not sure if anyone’s ever done this before, or if I’m just autistic. In my opinion, I think demko should release more parts to modify these knives. Thicker scales, different materials, backspacers, ano’d standoffs, pivots, ect. It would make these knives a lot more fun and I more popular.

Would you carry it?
