I’m looking for feedback on this old folding pruning knife (serpette). It has a hand-forged blade, an iron ferrule, and no liners—the tang pivots directly in the wooden handle. The blade has two stamps: an ornate monogram that looks like “C P” and a small circular forge-test mark. The handle has hand-carved folk motifs and a carved date “1791,” with oxidation and wear inside the cuts. Based on construction style and these features, I’ve been told it may be a late-18th-century French rural knife. I’d appreciate any opinions on the likely date of manufacture, region, and whether the markings and carvings fit that timeframe.
