If it’s a gift, yes.
My wife bought me a knife when she found out I collect them, and I still carry it on special dates with her because it was a gift given out of love.
It wasn’t expensive or fancy, has no real brand, and is a little off center, but I like it either way because it was given to me by someone that loves me.

If he’s a knife guy, don’t buy him a knife. Maybe buy him a knife if you poke around and figure out what he actually wants. But if he’s not a knife guy, any knife you buy him will probably be pretty cool. Regardless, it’s awesome that you’re buying him a present and I wish you both the best.
