This old Coleman rechargeable I bought from Walmart about a dozen years ago has finally started to fail. It still lights up great, but the battery life is not acceptable anymore at all. All identifying marks have been worn off. This thing has been faithful for a very long time.

I want a simple very bright on/off flashlight. No adjustable lens, disco bondage light modes, or bdsm spikes out front. Rechargeable is a priority for me.

Thanks for your time.

Any suggestions. I’m having zero luck.

The problem with any ON/OFF lights today is that you are either stuck with $5 junk lights form dollar stores that can’t provide you any modicum of reliable operation, or you’re getting scammed by online retailers with outright fraudulent claims, or you are looking at specific use lights, like searchlights or weapon lights that rely on 100% output exclusively.

And therein lies the problem: 1 mode means you’re either completely blinded by your light, or you don’t use this flashlight because it doesn’t give you the light you need. For example, ON/OFF means you’re blinding someone else next to you in a tent or at bedside, in addition to yourself, if your light is even a modern enough light that produces more than 1,000 lumens.

So, the answer to this is Mode Memory. Last mode you love using your light on and shut OFF in, is the same mode that returns when you hit the ON switch.

You can get another light with sustained lumens output like the Coleman, roughly 300-400 lumens, but you’ll be doing that with the light’s High or Medium modes with mode memory. The already mentioned Wurkkos FC11C does this, having stable output at about 500 lumens. The Acebeam E75 (Nichia 519A 5000K emitter option) does even better, doubling the stable output of the FC11C. But it also has a mode for 400 lumens stable.

There’s lots of other options available to you. Just avoid the 1-mode ON/OFF type of lights.

  2. I put on the old reading glasses and looked it over. It is in fact an ozark trail brand, not Coleman. Doesn’t change anything but I figured I’d declared it for accuracy. I’m even more pleased that some bargain brand light served me so well for so many years.
