I bought this knife recently and like all of my other knifes I take them apart every once in a while to check the inside of them and make sure they are clean. This is my first time taking this knife apart and I noticed that there is some kind of oily sticky substance on the inside of the handle. Is this normal? Should I clean it off? It looks like it might just be holding the the small metal bar in place but I’d rather be safe than sorry. If anyone can help that would be great!!!

Kind of looks like it’s just the factory grease they throw on them. I always clean it off, and put some oil on any parts that might rub together.

Grease for the spring assist bar. You could clean it out and replace the spring without it and it would probably be fine to reassemble and in usage.

But since the manufacturer clearly feels it’s best to have the area lubricated, I would take that as cue that it might be a little better to do the same.

I use bicycle grease for this kind of thing. Any grease is probably fine.
