I feel dumb for asking but the cover over charging port will no longer stay in. Suggestions for a fix other than cutting the rubber tab.

Idk how hot this light gets, but maybe put it on turbo for a little bit, then push the rubber peice in. Start from the side the cover is attached and work your way down.
Then when the flashlight cools down, the air will contract and make a slight suction on the rubber piece.
