Yesterday I asked for some advice on a Convoy light build. That was really what I needed to get started (Thanks a lot /u/yoelpez & /u/RettichDesTodes). I spend the entire day watching videos and reading up and I think I now have a much better idea what I want. I’m really blown away by the look and intensity of the green OSRAMs and I want to spec an 18650 thrower with one.
In terms of body it seems my choices are the S6/8, M1, M2 and C8+. Those range from tiny tube light to more chunky thrower. I think I’ll disregard the M2 as it seems like a worse reflector than the M1 and people say it has a water ingress design flaw. (Am I crazy for not looking at the 21700 but still compact M21, though?)
For the LED it seems there are the CSLNM1.F1 and CSLPM1.F1 options. The former is a low lumen high throw 1mm^2 options and the latter a higher lumen somehwhat lower throw 2mm^2 model. The CSLPM1.F1 seems to be a less popular choice, at least there are far fewer videos and reviews of builds with it.
With the CSLPM1.F1 I’d be a bit worried about how much the extra lumen would impact things. More lumen, more trouble. Suddenly heat, runtime, sensitivity to battery voltage etc. all become a bigger issue.
So, basically:
– I think I want the M1 body, convince me the C8+ is worth the extra bulk? – I think I want the CSLNM1.F1, convince me the CSLPM1.F1 is a better performer? – Should I ask for any customizations, like a different reflector or driver board? – Anything else I’m missing?
