The 519A feels significantly less throwy, but I think that’s just an artifact of the higher intensity SST40. The 519A has a nice even hotspot that is more usable, way less ring artifacts ,and waaaayyy less tint shift across the beam. All shots are on turbo, ref->519A->SST40.
I don’t have the tools to check the driver or runtimes etc… but qualitatively, it’s a much better light. Doesn’t get as hot, good brightness for the size, but I still don’t know where to keep the clip.
The biggest downside to this light is the clip placement—which hasn’t changed. The button and USB-C charging port are on opposite sides of the light (I like this as it makes finding the button easy). If the clip is over the charging port, it’s opposite the button and comfortable. But the cover flat can get caught on fabric when clipping (or removing) the light to something. So the clip has to sit between the button and charging port, which I don’t really like. Minor point. It’s small enough to just sit in my pocket, so I just leave the clip off, like I do with most 18350 lights.
This was a great decision by Sofirn. Hopefully we just don’t see any new lights with SST40’s in them, especially for small lights like the sc13. I’d love an Andúril version but as it is this is a good simple UI with stepped brightness, lockout, and most importantly access to moonlight from off. So everything I need.
Again, Sofrin sent this to me free for an honest review. I’ll report back if I have any huge updates, but until I set up a light meter and graphing software on my computer to at least do runtimes… this is about all I got. Love being a part of the community!
