I tend to gravitate towards “budget” or “inexpensive” items for EDC. My mindset is if I can’t afford to lose it, I shouldn’t be carrying it. The only exceptions are any life-or-death items (mainly self defense and medical) and a couple of nicer watches that I only wear on special occasions, but the latter doesn’t really count as EDC in my opinion.
