I picked this up new in box for $40 shipped on ebay and could not resist. Just had to have it. At first I wasn’t too impressed but after a few days here’s why I like it.
It’s light, I don’t notice it in my pocket. It’s bigger than the wave+ but smaller than the surge.
The tools are good enough for most generalist tasks and the saw exchanger is a nice feature. I wish it had a bit driver but it doesn’t, oh well. I’m not crazy about the combo blade but for opening an orange or package it works fine.
My favorite feature is the one hand deployment. It’s satiisfying to flick it open. I just walk around my house flicking it over and over again. This is worth what I paid alone.
The other thing I like is my Surge is babied. I rub it with oil, I hone the blade after each use, I try not to ding it up because I like it looking new. I think the mp600 scout pro I got retails for about $70 on amazon, but I have seen them on sale for $50 or $60… and it’s a tool you can beat up on and not care how scratched up and beat up it gets.
I think I’ll always have one of these around from now on. Sure it ain’t a leatherman but I don’t think this model leaves much to be desired for the price.
