My father passed away last year and my brother and I were going through his knife collection today only to find out the foam padding material in his display case has deteriorated and is sticking to most of the knives from the case. Some only appear to have the bolsters affected but it also stuck to some handles and blades. I’ve added some Cloe ups and the foam left a texture but I don’t think it etched into any bolsters or handles.
Any advice on property cleaning would be greatly appreciated. The wood and bone handles seem least affected but plastic handles seem to be the worst. Also have some mother of pearl handles.
So, due to the variety of materials involved I’m guessing there won’t be a one size fits all when it comes to cleaning.
These are predominantly Case and Boker knives but also some I’m not sure of the manufacturer.
