I am being gifted my choice of either, and because of that I do not have a specific need for one tool or another that one of the multis may or may not have.

The only really difference I’ve been seeing is that Leatherman saws are bigger and the pliers are better, versus the Victorinox having a better overall build quality and warranty.

Am I missing anything glaring between the two? Anything else to be aware of or other input?

I own both, and I would definitely choose the Wave. One-hand opening blade, bit holders, replaceable wire cutters, and the diamond-coated file are all just too important to me to even consider the Spirit X. In addition, I find that my Leathermans operate much more smoothly than the Vics which tend to be very stiff on many of the tools… and I mean nail-breaking stiff.

If you want something that feels more refined go with the Vic.

    The Leatherman is more industrious.

The Victorinox handles are so comfortable you can actually put your strengh to use with the pliers. No one hand opening tho !
I chose the Spirit because of the higher quality and basically it has almost every tool you can see on a MT
