Haters…. Some of the best durable blades around.

  2. Sekshual_Tyranosauce

Some don’t like how bulky they are.

Others don’t like the fact that he uses racism as a marketing tool.

I have never actually heard anyone complain about quality.

  3. hollow_mf

I like my knives to be able to cut things, don’t much like supporting racists, and am not paying that much for D2

From my almost 2 years of experience on Reddit, these are some of the reasons why some people don’t like his knives:

1.Many people complain about medfords having bad action. The fact that he uses (or used) like 2-3 washers per side is absurd.

2.Overpricing is a thing with Medford: he’s putting out knives in the same price range as CRK and Shirogorov but he used to make his knives in CPM D2. I hear that he’s now using S35vn but still charges excessive prices for them.

No, steel is not the absolute determining factor that contributes to the price of a knife, there’s more to knife making than just steel choice. But the fact that he also doesn’t hire enough people to run the machines at his shop (according to a glassdoor review) makes it seem like he’s intentionally delaying products so that he can artificially increase their value. The review I’m talking about was made a while ago, so take this last paragraph with a grain of salt.

3.Bad ergonomics: this one is subjective, but still, many people have complained about his knives being as comfortable as bricks.

4.The magnacut incident: when he got hold of some magnacut steel, he ran it soft. How soft? 58hrc, softer than the recommended hrc by Crucible. He then proceded to make a video filled with excuses about how he couldn’t run it at higher hardness…

Me personally: I like some of his designs. Don’t think I’ll ever buy one, but I like some of them. The one thing I don’t like about Medford (just like most people in the community) is his personality. He tends to be somewhat volatile and, in many cases, an outright cunt.

Sharpened prybar geometry with locks that slip with light spinetaps that would not have closed on some stiffer slipjoints, made by some one with no idea of what heat treat is, who also handed out racist T shirts at shows and spews racist bullshit all the time on social media, and price knives wayyyyy too high.

  6. Badonk529

Owners a racist piece of shit.

And his people go along with it.

  7. HopSkipATheChewtoys

It’s basically the same situation as Kanye West’s clothing—owner is crazy and the prices are hilarious to anyone that isn’t a jackass

  8. Multi-ToolDad

Twat waffles are gonna say he’s racist. But these are the same people that probably would drive a Volkswagen and not even know it was started by the nazi regime and Hitler.

  9. OldStuff1909

I’d say terrible proportions for starters.

  10. Because they’re poorly made shit made by a racist asshole with no talent, the clones have more actual value.

  11. mallgrabmongopush

Biggest reason is probably that Greg is a huge asshole

  12. BlOcKtRiP

Not so much the knives it’s the person behind the knives people don’t care for

  13. Slight-Appointment71

Waaaay overpriced, you pay Chris Reeve’s prices for S35VN or D2 which is ubsurd.

Why would I buy a medford when I can buy a CRK Zaan for the same price?

A ton of his knives are way to bulky to be actually practical.

Oh and he is just a horrible person, that may have something to do with it.

  14. spaceguitar

We actually like the knives (for the most part, some don’t like chonk). They’re pricey though, and some have talked about having quality issues with their pricey knife. The issue is the knife *maker.* He is, on record, an unapologetic racist. I will never fuck with a racist.

    /shrug

  15. Fnargler

    A few reasons.

As far as the actual knives go, they’re very big, thick, heavy etc and aren’t well suited to many EDC tasks. Design taste is subjective and it’s fair to like or dislike a knife based on that.

Another big reason is that the owner of the company has made racist comments and merch.

  16. jordantask

    1. Ridiculously overbuilt.

    2. Ridiculously overhyped.

    3. Ridiculously overpriced.

    4. Company owner/maker is obscenely and unapologetically racist.

  17. Because they’re literal bricks and Greg is nuttier than a snickers bar and more racist than a plantation owner

  18. esquegee

People don’t like them because they’re too overbuilt for what the average EDC’er would likely ever use them for. People don’t like the brand because the owner is an egotistical asshat. He’s rude to people who point out flaws in his design/execution of his blades and has a history of racist remarks and actions because of Chinese clones of his knives. I was once heavily considering saving up for a Medford until I bore witness to his utter ignorance. At a bladeshow their booth was selling shirts with a racist stereotypical caricature of Chinese people and he saw absolutely no issue with it and even insulted the people pointing out just how racist those shirts were.

  19. SavageFugu

There’s just no practicality in his knives. I like m knives to serve a purpose; cooking, work, edc, even church or formal. His knives don’t really do any of those things well. Also, Medford has had some QC issues.

  20. I mean when he threatened to doxx Nick Shabazz and began threatening people online who disagreed with his statement during the BLM Protests (I.E “it’s time to start stacking bodies” was one of the prominent statements) I decided then and there I wasn’t a consumer of his products

  21. MrYamaguchi

It’s just the white knights on social media and those who refuse to even consider expensive knives that hate on them. I think the designs are cool, owner seems fine, maybe a crude guy but I don’t think he is a genuinely hateful person by any means. I’ll probably pick up a Fighter Flipper and PraetorianTi at some point in my life.

  22. Jazzlike_Yam6367

    That’s fucking awesome! Congrats!

  23. Jazzlike_Yam6367

Is that a Metal Complex logo on the blade?

  24. Tobin678

“It’s the question that drives us, op. It’s the question that brought you here. You know the question, just as I did.”

  25. Navigator1983

I have 4. Love them all. Don’t care about all the other drama.

  26. Sounds like Perkins knives in the UK, pretty good blades but terrible company and a half ass owner that don’t give a damn about his customers

  27. Hefty_Detective

Price aside, I just never liked the look of them. They are big and chunky and kind of remind me of a box cutter. The blades are thicker than I like, too. I’ve never held one but I don’t doubt they are high quality. I only have 1 or 2 knives at that price point so I’m pretty picky about how they look . .especially since all I’m gonna do is look at them, lol.

  28. The owner, the edge geometry, and the fact that the rest of the overbuilt knife relies on a frame lock.

  29. Well, a lot of people don’t like what they cannot lift. 🤣🤣👍
