Tl;dr: I would not recommend this multi tool. The handles came uneven and wiggle back and forth, this causes the blade to smack into the pliers. You’ll never have a sharp blade with this tool.
Pros:
First let’s talk about price, this thing comes in at only $30. All tools on this multitool lock open. The blade, philips head, and scissors are all accessible with one hand. Though it should be noted that accessing the scissors with one hand is not the easiest task in the world. The wire cutters on this tool are a beast, they were able to cut through the mossberg cable lock pictured above with minimal damage. (Friend brought the wrong keys to the range.) The file works great, it’s pretty aggressive and I often use it to file burrs off of aluminum. The reamer is very sharp and can drill a hole out of wood, PVC, or drywall with ease, I use it a lot. The scissors work decently well, no complaints there.
Cons:
My biggest problem with this tool is that the handles are not aligned with each other. Because of this the handles rub against and scratch the pliers, more importantly, this causes the blade to smack into the pliers when they close. You will never be able to keep your knife sharp with this tool which is a total deal breaker. The handles also wobble which makes this multitool feel really cheap. I’ve heard complaints from other users about this so it’s not like I just received a lemon. The blade has a weird, uneven grind. This makes it so you can’t use a guided sharpener like the worksharp precision adjust or spyderco sharpmaker. The pocket clip on this thing is also complete trash. The first time I took it out it bent like crazy. When I tried to unscrew it so I could take it out and bend it back into shape the screws stripped on me. This tool also has terrible ergonomics, it causes hotspots all over the hand and cannot be gripped too tight. And for some reason the Phillips driver can never seem to get a solid grip on screws. My last gripe is the depth gauge. It is 1.5 inches long and is only marked at every half inch. I work at a machine shop and deal with CAD design. If I’m using a depth gauge at work I need much more precise measurements than half an inch. I’m not sure why they didn’t just add more notches so that the precision was 1/10 of an inch instead of 1/2.
Conclusion
If gerber had some better quality control and fixed the alignment issues with this tool ,along with providing an even grind on the blade, I think this would be the best budget multi tool on the market. It comes in at only $30, all tools lock, the blade, scissors, and Phillips driver are all accessible with one hand, and the wire cutter is an absolute beast. Unfortunately I really can’t recommend this tool, even for the price, the quality control issues really just ruin this product.
