I recently picked up a used Leatherman P2 on ebay. Overall I’ve been pretty impressed with the tool, but I’ve noticed that the outside tools can partially deploy when the pliers click into position. Can anybody else who has the tool confirm if this is normal or not?

Luckily the knife isn’t moving when this happens, so safety isn’t too much of a concern. It might be possible for the awl to wind up in a dangerous spot though.

I have tried tightening the bolt to prevent this, but I couldn’t find a sweet spot that holds the tools in place without making them too tight to deploy intentionally. I first noticed this issue after lubricating the tool, so that could have something to do with it.

If this isn’t correct, I guess my next step would be to send it in to Leatherman. It could be that the magnets have just worn out over time, which doesn’t give me high hopes for the tool’s longevity.

yes, but to that degree, i don’t think so. it should happen slightly. try using a t9 torx set to tighten the pivots on the tools (one on each side simulataneously) and see if that helps
