Fenix IRIS X vs Surefire Intellibeam

Fenix has released the TK15R with a new automatic adaptive brightness control called Iris X. From a first look it seems to work similar to the Surefire Intellibeam. Looks interesting, but I wonder: wasn't the Intellibeam patented by Surefire? What's the difference?
