



My lovely 100 yr old Filipino landlord gifted me this (Kakuri? Cane?) knife. She said it was her father’s, and she suspects it was her grandfathers as well.
Part of me wants to leave it as is and get it sharpened, and part of me wants to clean it up. What would you all suggest? What would be the best way to restore it?

This actually looks much more like a Filipino bolo. Kukris have an aggressive drop point and a recurve cutting edge
I’d scrub the metal with the rough side of a kitchen sponge and generous mineral oil just to get the red rust off. Nothing invasive. It’s an antique at this point even if it’s a simple tool.
