Just finished this futuristic take on a traditional kiridashi, imagined as a tool you’d find in a cyberpunk setting.
For those unfamiliar, a kiridashi is a small Japanese utility knife, traditionally a single bevel blade used for precise tasks like carving, marking, and general workshop work. It’s simple, compact, and extremely versatile.
This version keeps that core idea but pushes it into a more aggressive, skeletal, industrial design language. I CNC machined it from hardened tool steel, then finished it by hand to keep some texture and character on the surface. The cutouts are not just aesthetic, they also reduce weight and shift the balance slightly forward toward the blade.
I also engraved my own logo into the handle as a final touch.
Curious what you think, does this still feel like a kiridashi, or is it becoming something else?
