The Sofirn ST2 (affiliate link, use coupon code mtbohana10 for 10% off) I bought showed up last week, and I have been using it to see how I like it. Sofirn markets this as a work light, but for me it's just a good every day flashlight to have. With it's two 18650 battries and having 7600mAh it's just a good flashlight to have.
The first thing I have to say is the 90° rotatable head is like a fidget toy. I can't stop rotating it. Also, the action is soooo damn smooth, and the clicking sound it makes when rotating it is so satisfying.
A flashlight with two 18650 batteries and weighing 248g shouldn't feel this good in my pocket, but somehow it does. I could easily daily carry this thing, and it wouldn't even bother me. It must be the slim, rectangular design that just makes it work.
The SFT-42R does a surprisingly good job of throwing, even though it has a tiny reflector. Also, it doesn't have any weird halo artifacts or rings in its beam pattern, and it has some really good flood.
The SST-20 at 660nm is a beautiful deep red and has no hints of orange in its color, perfect for keeping your night vision, and the beam pattern is nice and floody.
The SST-08 365nm is fun to play with and has good output. Just some friendly advice here: never shine it in your bathroom. You will never stop cleaning it, LOL.
The UI is simple to use thanks to the rotary switch for selecting between white, red, and UV. The e-switch is slightly recessed in the middle of the rotary switch to help protect against accidental activation, though the ST2 does have a lockout mode (quadruple click) so it won't accidentally activate in your tool bag. Both the 3-position rotary switch and e-switch feel nice and clicky and feel really good to use.
The clip on this flashlight is a thick one, and I've been liking it a lot. The reason is I've been using this flashlight a lot for my night hikes. As I said, it has 7600mAh, so it lasts a long time. With that big clip, I've been clipping the ST2 upside down to the chest strap on my hiking backpack. I then use the rotatable head and point it slightly downward. It makes the perfect trail hiking flashlight. Only try this if the chest strap of your bag is thick. I tried it on my Camelbak Mule bag, and the strap is really thin; the flashlight almost fell off. However, I just used a rubber band around the flashlight/clip to make the clip stronger, and it stayed attached with no problems. If you are into hiking, camping, or need a long-lasting emergency light, then the ST2 is for you. It's more than just a work flashlight, and I think Sofirn should have mentioned that in their marketing.
The ST2 is on Flash Sale right now and you can use coupon code mtbohana10 to get an additional 10% off.
