I’ve seen a few photos of some wicked injuries from you guys lately, and I couldn’t help but think, “Why are people stabbing themselves so often with their blades? It’s been a long time since I’ve so much as nicked myself, and I use a folder and fixed blade on what’s essentially a farm every single day.”

I did have the presence of mind to think, “You’ve probably just gotten lucky,” but I admittedly brushed that off and told myself that I’m just more present when using a blade.

That was 1–2 days ago. Three hours ago, I stabbed myself in the finger while prepping an insulation foam noodle to apply to the window frame of a little Kawasaki 4×4 (it’s warm now, so I removed the actual windows, and the open frame pinches your arm), which is used on the property to haul wood, feed, and handle other small chores.

It wasn’t a bad cut, although it did bleed absolutely everywhere right after this picture was taken.

1. I had the wrong knife for the job.

2. I was going about it incorrectly.

3. I wasn’t paying attention.

Three strikes, when one is all that’s ever needed for a severe injury to occur. I’m lucky it wasn’t worse.

I had to laugh as soon as it happened. This is exactly what I get for judging everyone else.

I’m an idiot, a jerk, a know-it-all who believed they were superior to others. Karma ever so lightly nudged me and set me straight.

Stay safe out there. It can happen to us all.

Also, I’m sorry.

XOXO,

I don’t trust a knife that hasn’t cut me yet.
