I have a store local to me trying to get rid of their knives and they have bench made shootouts marked down to 250, so roughly the same price as a live wire. My question then is for the exact same price which would you go with and why?

Ultratech gen 2s are 25% off
Disclaimer: I don’t have a live wire so my opinions only pertain to the shootout I have. The shootout absolutely has a quality blade and it’s pretty easy to keep it razor sharp. There is also very little blade play, it’s not full lock up but there is almost no side to side play and about 1/8″ or less of back to front play. It’s also surprisingly light so it gets adequate amounts of time as my edc. That being said I still don’t know if the price point is worth it even with the cruwear steel and the carbon fiber infused handle. I also reground mine into more of a standard drop point instead of the tanto blade.
Tl;dr : the shootout is a quality knife but for the price point I’m not sure if it warrants the 100’s more than I paid. I think I got mine for around 375 shortly after they came out.
Edit: I saw you found a deal for 250 so it may indeed be a better deal if the live wire is around the same price.
Double edit: I actually still prefer my reate exo gravity knife to any of my otfs. Just as fast to get the blade out and the lockup is total although they use elmax instead of cruwear.
The livewire, aluminum over polymer, magnacut over cruwear (for an OTF), still made in the USA. Benchmade has their lifesharp warranty but shipping OTFs is more of a hassle.
Design and handle material that suits your preference. Both solid with good blade steel
