I think this is my 5th Protean. I've sold all of the previous ones for the same reason but like an abusive relationship, maybe this time will be different…
It sure is a beautiful configuration though. I wish Prince would do a little more detailed work on his detent ramp/path. I also wish he'd offer more bright finished blades – zirblast, satin, light stonewash, etc.
The detent, opening action and acoustics are all fantastic. Ergonomics are amazing. The overall size is fantastic and it's well balanced.
Doesn't change that the detent ramp sucks and the action is gritty. The acid washed blade surely isn't helping things. At the very least, wear in a polished track for the detent post to ride on. Out of the box these feel like they spent a day at the beach and forgot to shower.
