I now have two nightwatch lights, an LW25 and an A54U2.

As a performance enthusiast I would rate these lights quite highly. My A54Ultra2 is in 4000K 95CRI and the 18k to 20k lumens that it puts out is spectacular.

The UI on these is not described in the listing pages https://www.nealsgadgets.com/products/nightwatch-a54u-flashlight?variant=42485900869706

but it's explained in many review videos and pages. I'm not a big fan of the UI but it works well enough for me to enjoy the lights.

When i say undocumented, these are the modes I discovered that I have never found described elsewhere on the internet.

From off:

  • 1C for on (memory into regular mode)
  • 2C for full turbo
  • 1H for "moonlight" (40lm?) (1H or 1C turns off)
  • (undocumented) 2H for momentary moonlight
  • (undocumented) 3H for momentary moonlight followed by memory into regular mode upon release. regular mode is not regular (either 1H or 1C from there turns off)
  • (undocumented) 4H for momentary moonlight followed by strobe just like above
  • (undocumented) 5H, or 6H, or 7H, etc, for regular moonlight
  • 4C lockout, blinks 3x to confirm
  • 3C strobe

Regular on modes: mode spacing is not spectacular, but there are 4 levels:

  • 1C cycle to next level
  • 1H turns off
  • 2C for turbo
  • 2H also turns off (also 3H, etc)
  • 3C for strobe, from which 1C returns back here

From Turbo:

  • 1C to go to memorized regular level
  • 1H turns off
  • 3C for strobe from which 1C returns to regular level

From Lockout:

  • (undocumented) 1H (or 2H, or 4H) turns on moonlight. this state requires a 1H to turn back off
  • (undocumented) 3H turns on moonlight which upon release returns to memorized regular level. Also requires a 1H to turn back off!
  • I guess it's worth noting 5C or 6C or whatever do not exit lockout. only 4C.

All the above I confirmed with the A54U2, I will come back and update if I confirm exact same behavior on the LW25 or if it differs.

It seems a little funny that you can put the memory on the highest regular mode and put the light into a thermally controlled, fairly high output mode (e.g. 3500 or so lumens on the A54U) from lockout. Not exactly easy to do so it does not seem to be an issue. Just very silly.
