(my questions are nearer to the bottom I just wanna give a little backstory)
I bought this knife at a flea market today because I wanted some sort of marker for being 18 (even though my birthday was months ago)
I've always been interested in knives but not super knowledgeable. I like looking at them when I go to stores but really all my interest boils down to is "wow that one's big and pointy thats so cool"
This one was ten dollars and I felt kind of scandalous buying it cuz in America you can't buy cigarettes, alcohol, or lottery tickets at 18 anymore, but you can buy knives and guns ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I guess this will develop into a new hobby because they had a ton of ones that looked interesting to me at the flea market (one was a dracula coffin shaped pocket knife, one was a Richard Nixon memorial swiss army knife, one was this obnoxiously big hunting knife) and they're all relatively cheap. I literally have no purpose for them though, this one I just bought is hanging on a rusty nail on my wall next to my Dave Mustaine poster 😭😭😭 (no place it'll injur me or damage anything don't worry).
I've been scrolling this subreddit a bit after buying it because I've never really felt interested in something like this before (my largest collections are calico critters and old postcards so the jump from that to knives is really wild to me)
To get to the point (harhar) I guess my question is just …. What Is This Thang. What's the purpose of the leather strip laying on the blade? It was sold as a pocket knife, and I know I know literally Nothing about knives but this looks nothing at all like the pocket knives I've seen. What even counts as a pocket knife 😭? Is there a specific purpose certain kinds of knives are made for?
Thank you knife community for listening to me. In a years time I'll probably be knee deep into this and start hoarding knives after obsessively buying them 🫡
