For as long as I can remember, the C8+ and the M21A have always used identical reflectors (at least for the same emitter in each host.) That is no longer the case.

Frankly, the M21A's reflector is terrible. It creates significant rings fairly close to the hotspot, which I noticed immediately when I first turned on the M21A when it arrived today. You can see in the photo that the flat part of the reflector right around the emitter is much thicker on the M21A than it is on the C8+ reflector.

Why the change? I couldn't tell you. But if you're thinking about buying the M21A with the SFT-42R, please learn from my unpleasant discovery rather than having to go through it yourself. Stick with the C8+ version, which is perfect.

Does the C8+ reflector fit in the m21a with that gasket?

Beware of what? There’s no deception here. Just get another gasket from Convoy. They cost pennies.

I’m saying just buy the parts to make them the same. Maybe just another c8+ reflector. They’re $2.22 usd. It’s never even been on my radar that those 2 lights would use the same reflector.

It’s not a beware situation. It looks like one may just have a smaller hole.

The C8/M21A reflectors are made in 2 versions, one with 7mm diameter hole and one with 9mm.

It is my experience that the 7mm hole version is made with very poor precision. I also get very ringy beams, plus a misshapen hotspot even with perfect centering and focus.
