In this recent Tested video, Adam Savage asked for recommendations for an EDC flashlight that is:

• durable

• simple UI (ideally just on/off, no mode cycling)

• something he can carry every day

It looks like he’s currently using a Lumintop Tool AA 2.0, likely the Nichia 219C version around 4000K based on the tint?

He specifically called out AA, which narrows things quite a bit.

If we stay within AA

~$20–30 (Tool AA territory)

• Convoy T3

• Acebeam Pokelit AA

• Acebeam TAC AA

These feel like lateral moves from what he already has.

~$30–60 (actual upgrades)

• Manker E05 II

• Reylight LANapple

• Skilhunt M150 V4

• Emisar D3AA (can be configured down to effectively one mode)

This is where you start getting better emitters and build quality, but most still aren’t truly “single-mode” out of the box.

One interesting middle ground

• Weltool T1 Pro Tac

It supports AA, but is really built around 14500.

More importantly, the UI is very close to what he described:

• forward clicky

• always starts on high

• low is hidden, not something you hit accidentally

This is one of the few lights that actually behaves like a “one-mode tool” without needing programming. Adam certainly appreciates tool quality so I really think he’ll enjoy this one.

If we ignore the AA requirement

• Zebralight SC65

Same tool quality vibes. This probably solves the problem the cleanest. It can be configured to behave exactly like a single-mode light, but with much better regulation and runtime than anything in the AA class.

Curious what others think

• Best true one-mode light?

• Best AA option that’s actually an upgrade?

• Is AA worth sticking to here?

If you’ve got a strong recommendation, it might be worth dropping it in the YouTube comments too. He sounded like he was actively looking for suggestions.

I feel like he is someone who would love Convoy and get sucked in

I would give someone like that a Convoy T light

Only downside is the only single mode setup is 100%
