I was using a semi-budget alkaline battery (Arlec brand) in my i3e. Which turned out not to be a good idea.

Thankfully I caught it before the damage got too far.

I was able to extract the battery with a pair of bent nose pliers (it slid out of its wrapper in the end, although getting it moving was a challenge) then scraped the corrosion from inside the barrel using one of the screwdrivers on my Leatherman Juice to provide a suitable scraper.

Interestingly the PCB assembly had worked loose. I suspect it’d got slightly stuck to the corrosion & unscrewed a bit when I operated the torch.

That screwed back in place with a little care.

I’ve dropped in a Duracel Max AAA now & will see how it goes.
