Hello guys, I bought this flashlight from Kosen because I wanted "Malkoff" quality/durability, but from what I saw after reading the description, the flashlight is modded (not the same emitter, and even body doesn't look like from Malkoff).

So, except the titanium part that is great, is it safe to say I will have at least the same quality as buying an "original" Malkoff?

Thanks

Yes it’s the same quality as a Malkoff. Gene builds the drop in (engine) that goes inside the VME head which is fully potted and everything else. Malkoff sells this VME but in HA aluminum

The drop in which has the led is not β€œmodded” it’s built exactly the same way Malkoff builds his other drop ins but with a different emitter from factory

It’s not modded, the LEDs are sent to Malkoff and they build the drop-in with them. But if you have an issue they probably won’t be able to replace it like for like in the future since he doesn’t stock those LEDs.

The body is made by McGizmo. The VME head might be as well. The name “VME” explains that the design wasn’t Malkoff in the first place, it’s more of a collab.

Malkoff, McGizmo, and others (Overready notably, and Surefire obviously) make a lot of products to Surefire patterns. Which means they can be mixed and matched. Which is what this is. The McGizmo bodies use Surefire E-series patterns, which is what Malkoff MDC products like the VME also use.

Malkoff uses McClicky (McGizmo) switches in almost all of his lights (maybe all?). So unless there’s a reilability problem with the actual tube itself, the electronics and switch are all things you would get from Malkoff if it were a 100% Malkoff product. If you did want that, a regular black aluminum VME head and a CR123 MDC body with your drop-in would be the equivalent.
