I've never soldered anything before but seeing all the crazy mods and builds around here was really triggering my urge to tinker. After watching youtube tutorials and scouring this sub, I decided maybe it wasn't wizardry after all and I should give it a shot. This was the result: Convoy S2+ with Ti short tube, Convoy 3V8A driver, triple 3030 mcpcb + emitters + spacer + Carclo 10507 throwy TIR from mtnelectronics. This thing is bright, fairly throwy and stays surprisingly cool.

When you factor in the cost of a soldering iron, hot plate, tools/accessories, consumables, host and parts, this is the most expensive flashlight I own but I built it! My soldering has a long way to go and I made lots of small mistakes along the way but when I screwed everything together and those green emitters lit up it was a very cool feeling. Huge shout-out to u/-Cheule- and Lumencraft whose excellent youtube tutorials on emitter swaps and triple builds were invaluable. I also found the nanofix youtube channel to be full of insightful soldering advice which addressed several of the issues I was having.

If you've been thinking about it but are on the fence, I say go for it! There's a bit of investment up front but now I have everything I need to get to work.
