I was apparently cutting at a slight angle, but I wouldn't have thought this was possible without putting the blade in a vise and actually trying to snap it. Nearly slit my thumb open!

Must’ve been some kind of fault within the metal.

It might have been a structural flaw in the steel(look for any oxidation near the break) also could have broken from stress that edge looks like it has seen better days
