I have this cheap serrated knife in the kitchen, and Its become my favorite because the blade shape is super comfortable for a lot of tasks. Short with a fully straight edge and a pointed tip. Is there a name for this type of blade? Do you have any recommendations for a good quality pocket knife with a similar shape?

In the kitchen you’d just call it a bread knife, but outside the kitchen you’d call it a sheepsfoot (or wharncliffe, or reverse tanto, depending on the shape of the spine).

There are tons of options out there for this kind of knife.

  3. I know it as a sheepsfoot blade. Straight edge, obtuse (but not square) tip. Jens Anso has a bunch of models with that type of blade.

Sheepsfoot is correct. This specific one is long and narrow (not a tall blade, like many sheepsfoots (sheepsfeet?)).

For a pocket knife, I personally prefer a sheepsfoot that has a not-quite straight blade, because just a little bit of belly seems to help if/when you need to cut on a surface like a cutting board.

I think my favorite example is probably the Kizer Guru, but I think they’re discontinued. The Civivi Vision FG is another good one that I know is still available.
