If the handle/locking mechanism goes, I guess I can always use the blade in a project. I want to buy something that’ll last a lifetime and I can give to my future kids.
Thanks for everyone’s feedback! Hope you have a great day… 👋

I would expressly choose something that doesn’t work with an omega spring. So most crossbar locks will be out.
The springs will be the first part to go unless you do something to damage it. They’re the piece with the most stress and movement, so I don’t know how many years it will take, but my bet is the springs will go first.
They’re easy to replace though, and pretty cheap.
Otherwise, how long it lasts depends on how you define “proper use.”
If you are looking for an heirloom, don’t get something with springs, and I would suggest titanium scales. There are tons of options.
