So last month I wanted to get some reliable pocket-size flashlights for several situations. That's when I discovered the rabbit hole of the flashlight fever. I was 100% unaware of the community built around this topic but, nerd as I am, I had to take part. So here's my first acquisitions.

  • I went with Convoy because they are *extremely* affordable and customizable (makes me wonder, what's the point of all the other brands? ahah)
  • I bought one S21E to try out the concept; then fell in love and bought another two. I find this body/platform to be an excellent all rounder, unbeatable at ~20 EUR. It only lacks a mag tail cap IMO
  • With the last two I ordered a series of TIR lenses (30, 45, and 60 degs) in both 21 and 23 mm (it wasn't clear which was the right size) – just wanted to try them out
  • I find 45 and 60 deg lenses make no sense, at least for this model, regardless of the LED. It disperses too much and makes light too thin to be useful past a few meters. Only makes sense if you wanna make the flashlight a semi-permanent room headlight or something
  • Tith the 30deg TIR, though, it's a reasonable setup; not too disperse but without the annoying hotspot at short distances. And you can see in the picture the 30deg kinda looks like "180degs" lol I wonder how tighter angled lenses will behave (under 30 deg)
  • Trying out different batt models/capacities just for the lolz
  • While the 519A / 5000K was the first I got just for casual dog night walking. The color struck me as "beautiful", for the lack of a better word, but I didn't like the hotspot. I think the slightly warmer 4000K with the 30deg TIR is a more interesting compromise, and the LHP531 are muuuuch brighter (hot in the hand, too, though). I will probably keep 519A in the car, where a mix of throw and flood is more convenient in an emergency, and have the other ones for general purpose house stuff.

What do you guys think of this platform? I've debated getting Wurkkos or or Sofirn, but I always ended up on the Convoy website, where I could configure pretty much the same thing at a much more reasonable price.
