Why do some people hate flippers? There seems to be a small, but vocal faction of the community that hates flipper tabs and I've never understood why…

I don’t get the hate of them. I don’t like hinderers flipper though to big.

Flippers are a pretty reliable way to deploy a blade.

I own only one flipper. I don’t hate them, but I find the presentation can be offputting to others.

Also, I have a tendency towards washers to resist gunk etc. Bearings and flippers are a more common combination.

People like having the thumb studs in the way of the cutting path and flippers don’t allow for that. They also like how they have to adjust or remove the thumb studs while sharpening so they don’t get damaged.

I’ve found a lot of makers do not chamfer their liners/scales, so they are sharp when I deploy the knife using the flipper. I know it’s not sharp enough to cut me but I won’t choose that for an edc option.

I have big hands so instead of an ergonomic handle i’m going to have a finger pressing into that protrusion.

Flippers like flipping blades? People hate on those?

They are great. Much prefer them to “spring assist”

  9. My preferred deployment method whether it’s flipper tab or top flipper. Not a fan of knives with only thumb stud or hole.
