Is this knife I was gifted authentic?

I recently received this knife as a birthday gift. Apparently it is an Ames co. 1849 Rifleman’s Knife that has been given a new handle. I am into European swords but don’t know anything at all about American knives. If anyone could let me know if this is real, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
