I know inflation has affected things in the last 5 years. But goddamn. These two brands have gotten crazy compared to other knife makers imo lol. The paramilitary 2 was like 150-170 in alot of places. I'm in the south so most items are cheaper than Northern and west coast places. I had a benchmade folding adamas that I paid like 200$ flat for it. Well long story short my wife lost it. So I went to get another one. It's 300$ + most places. For instance 5 years ago a cold steel voyager xl was like 60$ and its 80$ max now. It just dont make sense to me to get these 2 knife brands anymore. I really didn't notice the jump until recently because they were always expensive for a knife so I didn't look for them. but now they are charging high end knife prices for mid range knives.

  1. You just noticed this? Benchmade has been way overpriced for years and their quality has declined. Spyderco is still a quality product but their prices have gone up with inflation and demand.

Yeah, Spyderco priced themselves out of my interest.

The PM2 was a fantastic $150 knife, but at $265 I don’t want to have to fiddle with tuning a knife to prevent blade play.

There are better options for the money.

Benchmade is kinda the same, but at least you don’t have to race the scalpers to get anything other that the base model.

Come hang out at r/budgetblades. I have not looked seriously at a benchmade or spyderco in ages because there are stellar options in the $60-98 range from several different companies.

You pay a lot for that spider or butterfly logo.

  6. CFishing

Spyderco sure does charge a lot for such an ugly knife.

Nope. That’s a hundred dollar price increase since 2020. They weren’t even worth the 2020 prices honestly. I have 5 Spyderco knives, none with fancy steel ,I like them but they are mid in quality with QC issues not to mention they are still mid 2000’s manufacturing. They all need scales and clips and ball cages, etc. to truly shine, which makes them ridiculously expensive in the end. Sorry Spyderco you joined Benchmade in the knives I will no longer even consider buying.

There’s a ton of options available for SV45N under $150 range wig better scales and whatnot. Traded about 10 BMs and about the same Spydies high end and don’t regret it a bit. Budget knives to me perform quite as good.

Both have gone up, though to be fair to Spyderco theirs don’t generally sell at MSRP when you buy them retail. Benchmade, on the other hand, usually does outside of sales.

That being said, I probably wouldn’t own near as many of both if it weren’t for their first responder discounts.

  10. Good shit ain’t cheap.

    Buy once, cry once
