I started keeping the flashlights on my keychain in the ‘90s. Until few years back (and before I started my flashlight hobby), I usually did not carry other lights on me.
Last few years, I have sharpened my approach to EDC flashlights:
- I started to carry “proper” literal-EDC
- I started to consider a keychain light as the last resort/emergency/backup and not to be used regularly
- I use a very stable and high capacity primary lithium AAA 1.5V battery in it
- I have paired it with a whistle and it’s always on my keychain, in the pocket, firmly hooked with carabiner to my belt
It took me a few years to score Stainless Steel Lumintop WORM (I hate any type od patina and the Alu patina in particular). I considered it the End Game… until Fenix introduced the SILVGLOW (it’s a limited run, apparently). I enjoy the looks of SILVGLOW much more and I got 4000K high CRI emitter as bonus.
I’m good and I’m no longer searching for any alternatives. That said, I don’t know what the future will bring. I know however, that — in order to be considered — it will have to be SS or Titanium, not bigger than my current one but more robust and with AAA battery.
