Why won’t my flashlight turn on while is facing a candle? Wild phenomenon I discovered by accident with my Sofirn Q8 Pro.

Interesting. Have you tried other flashlights? Also try to point it at other light sources

The parabolic reflector works in reverse, collecting the emission from the candle and sending it to the LED. Then the LED works in reverse, converting light to random electrical signals, which in turn mess with the driver.

You might get similar problems pointing it at the sun (though I don’t recommend finding out). Many old 7135 drivers of mine do this.

I’ve seen a post here years ago where someone was able to turn on one of their lights by shining another bright flashlight at it. As soon as the light would be taken away, the target light would turn on.
