I always leave that question and “ duty “ aside because I couldn’t really understand much and also couldn’t find much reliable information either. I hear most people just rinse with water and soap but I’m worried that I would turn all this dust ( I have a lot of dust) and gunk into the locking system and then I should disassemble which is big pain on assisted knife.

I see benchmade sells the so called “ blue lube cleaner “ (in the photo below) and recommends using it before the actual blue lubricant. What does this “ cleaner “ even do? And how it works that I don’t seem to understand, is it some kind of overpriced alcohol cleaner or ballistol?

The inside have collected a lot of dust so maybe a can of compressed air and then lube would be fine enough? Excuse me for the stupid question but I’m fairly new to the hobby and genuinely want to take a good care of the knife

  1. I just take mineral oil put it on a microfiber cloth and give a nice little wipey wipe

I haven’t owned the Benchmade cleaner but I always figured it was a windex of some kind.
I just use isopropyl alcohol but found 70% works better as 99% seemed to leave streaks on blades.

  3. If you want to strip a knife down Simple Green diluted 2parts water to 1 part SG.

    Ballistol does most cleaning though.

Oil, Singer machine oil is really great and cheap. Works in all temps.

Bees wax if you want food safe protection.

My specialized cleaner is isopropyl alcohol. I have 99% but dose it with distilled water to get it to around 75%.

    99% evaporates too quickly

Rubbing alcohol slightly diluted for the grips, and/or ballistol for the blade to take care if light surface rust and prevent corrosion.

Iv used the blue lube cleanser since 2008 and that’s all I ever use.

  7. “Specialized” – cute

Rubbing alcohol and a cotton patch…. let it dry… some KPL (not required… go for mineral oil for all i care)…. done.

Isopropyl and Rem Oil is my wombo combo. Rem oil cleans dirt through wear too so will lighten your cleaning load for the next time you decide to clean it.

71 percent isopropyl alcohol to clean the blade and handles. I’ll also use Ballistol to give a wipe down the blade and liners

Harbor freight ultrasonic cleaner with simple green. Lube it as I put it back together.
