I woke up to a lovely present from the Gofo delivery fairy this morning — my second ReyLight Pineapple Mini MK3!
My first one arrived two weeks ago, a stonewash Ti frag variant which I loved so much that, within 48 hours of receiving it, I ordered a second one in “distressed blue” with Seigaiha texturing for some extra style points.
As a pleasant surprise, neither of my lights came with the 350mAh 10440 battery that the description says they do (see pic 3). My first one arrived with a ReyLight-branded 450mAh flat top 10440 cell which I tested to have a 408mAh capacity. I can’t find any info on this cell, and it doesn’t seem to be available on ReyLight’s website or AliExpress…cool to have a little extra capacity nonetheless though. The second one came with the 300mAh USB-C rechargeable 10440 cell from ReyLight’s website. I haven’t capacity tested it yet but it recharges at 1.25W, or about 1C, meaning a full recharge should take about one hour. I didn’t order either cell separately, and was secretly hoping I’d get another one of the 450mAh mystery cells with my second order, but I’m sure the USB-C recharging will come in handy at some point.
Aside from the beautiful 4000K 519A high CRI emitter and super pocketable form factor, I love the slots for tritium vials on these lights. Adding tritium makes it so much easier to find this light in the dark, and carrying around a radioactive isotope is kind of fun too. I have some ice blue vials from Geeone I’ll be adding to my blue pineapple later today.
There’s only a few downsides I’ve experienced:
– the “distressed blue” anodization seems to rub off and fade very easily (pics 5 and 6 try to show where it’s rubbed off versus untouched parts where it hasn’t) and the resulting finish looks much more washed out than the bright blue pictures on ReyLight’s website show.
– the pocket clip looks awesome, but is pretty stiff and has trouble getting over thicker fabric seams. The pocket clip on the frag variant is especially hard to use as my pocket seam gets stuck on the texturing whenever trying to insert it or remove it from my pocket, usually making it a two-handed task.
– the light isn’t as bright as similarly sized 14500 lights. My Acebeam Pokelit AA with a 5000K Nichia 219B emitter is only very slightly larger but much brighter than the Pineapple Mini, and with a Vapcell F15 has about 5x the battery capacity. These Pineapple Minis are great little tools, but a lot of their value definitely comes from the style factor and not necessarily being the most practical tool for the job. I don’t think many of us are here purely for practicality though…
Thats it! Highly recommend this light to any flashlight enthusiast who doesn’t already own one (or several).
