Long time lurker first time poster. In my country we have an app for citizens first responders to help out with out of hospital cardiac arrest. The system is simple, if 911 gets a call about a cardiac arrest the nearest 5-10 persons gets a notification and asked if they can respond. I got one of those in the middle of the night, yell to the others in the house I am leaving and crucial remember to grab the flashlight stashed next to the front door.
I arrive at the place of incident, cpr in progress, we get the rythm back just as the physician response car arrives. We prep for intubation but the light in the room is quite poor and intubation is quite a high risk procedure for a patient this critical. Que people pulling out phones for flashlights. I turn on my Led Lenser p7r on max power, pointing it at the roof to minimise shadows, the beginning unrest and search for light ended. The procedure and packaging of the patient goes of without a hitch and we get him safely to the ambulance.
Moral of story: a lot of shitty situations happens at night and without proper lighting even the best trained professionals is going to have problems
