Id like to clean this blade without messing up the coating. Any advice?

If thereโ€™s rust in it like that, then the coating is already damaged, you can either use fine sandpaper or steel wool and then deal with protective coating after.

The damage is done. If you believe it’s only surface take paper towels and some vegitable oil and keep wiping till it’s gone. Sometimes it helps to let it soak in for a little while. Ultimately if smrust is showing through it means the coating is gone there. The best you can hope for is for the spots to be alot smaller than theu look here, as sometimes the rust will spread on top of the coating

I can’t tell if it’s rust or some kind of sticky mess (like tree sap and dirt). If it’s rust, a bronze brush and oil and forget about the finish. If it’s the latter, dish soap, warm water and a nylon brush. Slap out any water and dry thoroughly.

Those finishes are not expected to last on a working knife. See r/beatupknives

If itโ€™s rust, itโ€™s gone through the coating anyway so there wonโ€™t be much of it underneath.
