  1. u/BetterInsideTheBox notice how the very first punch is exactly half a point lower than the next one? This is extremely normal for all Rockwell hardness machines. The machine needs to “set” itself on the first punch typically. This is the exact reason why punching a blade one time is nowhere near enough data for a valid test. You’ll also see it on the test after this, a punch performed was a good bit lower. That’s because the blade was flipped to the other side, and the machine had to “set” itself again. Hope this makes sense!
