This knife was made for me as a gift by a friend several years ago, and some f*in TWIT in my family musta put it in its sheath without making sure it was dry and clean…. and im to embarrassed to ask my friend, so how can I get this clean again?

    I’d start with WD40 and super fine steel wool. That oughta knock off any active rust.

    How “clean” you want to go? If you want it bright and shiny and new, you’re going to need to do some serious polishing.

    If the sheath was leather, the rust can happen without any help. Leather will tend to hold onto moisture (e.g. humidity changes in the air).

    WD-40 or something with naptha as a main ingredient. To get it shiny again, you’re going to need a lot of either stones or belts for a sander. Start low grit and gradually work your way up. 220-400-1000-2000-4000-8000. If you’re doing it with stones, change the direction of your scratches to blend them in as you go up in grit. For best polishing, opposite directions when polishing.

    Flitz or Simichrome polish on a cotton swab or paper towel will remove the oxidation
