A fully snowed-in forest changes everything ❄️🌲

So I adjusted my EDC before heading out.

My UG Tools Tiny was an easy choice — compact, reliable, no second thoughts.

As always, a Victorinox rode along as a backup. Not because I expect failure, but because redundancy matters outdoors.

I usually carry a Zippo, but gloves and a smooth metal body don’t mix well.

So this time I went simple and practical: a classic BIC. No romance, just function.

A few days ago I picked up something new — a Nextorch flashlight.

Didn’t expect to need it this much, but the hike turned out longer than planned.

By the time the light faded and the forest went quiet, that flashlight proved exactly why it earned a spot in my EDC.

Tools tell their story when conditions get real.

What would you have added?

Which swiss army knife model is that?

Looks solid but I always have a water bottle with me. My preferred is the Yeti Rambler 26 oz with the yeti sling. And I carry a leatherman surge and thermal blanket.

Don’t drop that SAK in the snow! How you liking the flashlight?

  5. In my experience BICs and Clippers and other gas lighters tend to fail in the cold. If carried under the cloths so they get some body heat they work for a short while, then they need some heat again.

Petrol lighters like a Zippo or IMCO seem to work in colder environments (and when cold they don’t evaporate the petrol as fast as usual). Maybe an IMCO is something you can use with gloves, because it’s not as smooth as a Zippo. But they seem to be not as easily available as a few years ago.

Meh, this is a bit light for a full day of hiking imo

Why cant people just post a thread without having chatgpt write it for them? It’s so disingenuous. 🤦‍♂️

  8. Nice, I always go out with a headlamp if hiking
