Safe to say whatever coating was on the blade was compromised before this, so what does that leave me for options to clean up the surface pitting and not destroy the blade? Scotchbrite? 0000 steel wool? I’m not a really collector but I like good quality stuff and I using/maintaining it. TIA!!

I don’t think there’s a coating on that there steel, Cruwear is prone to rusting. Look, my theory is wabi sabi. Perfection in the imperfect. I’d take my knife apart and use a soft soft abrasive just to get the spots off. Then I’d oil it up. It’s a patina
It’s fine. Makes no sense to baby your tools.
