The cover on this battery has been slightly peeled off. I suspect it is by me scratching it with the springy end of my charger. Surely I could just put a bit of tape on there and it'll be alright? I don't really feel like throwing this away but if you guys have a good reason I might.

You’re technically not supposed to use tape but some of us do
I’d slap some Tenacious Tape on there and call it good.
My general rule of thumb with something this small would be to put a piece of tape over it as the entire case is the negative.
If you ever have anything near the positive then rewrap before use.
Throw some tape on it and order some wraps to keep on hand. They dirt cheap.
Small dings like this, the only thing I’d worry about when using tape, even thin electrical tape, would be whether the cell would fit afterward. If you check and it fits, you can keep it like this if you rarely take the battery out or the light has USB-C and you use that instead of removing the battery for recharging. But if you’re moving the battery out often, I would suggest re-wrapping it.
